Leadership Charlottesville: Kendra Stribling, Tax Manager, graduated from the program in May 2007. Edward Schmitz, an A&A Manager, will be in the next class. The firm is a strong supporter of the Chamber of Commerce and finds great value in the Leadership Charlottesville program.
March 2007 issue of Virginia Business Magazine, entitled “The List of Leaders,” recognized industry and professional leaders in the state. While Hantzmon Wiebel was 12th and upon removing the “Four” national firms and the regional firms that are not based in Virginia, Hantzmon Wiebel’s ranking translates to Sixth-Largest CPA firm based in Virginia. At the time of publication of the feature, the firm had 63 professionals.
ADDITIONS to the STAFF in 2007
JANUARY 2007
The firm was excited to recruit three December 2006 graduates who began work as Staff Accountants in January 2007. Matt Dean, who graduated from the University of Virginia at Wise, began working at Hantzmon Wiebel when he was at Piedmont Virginia Community College. It was like a homecoming for Matt to join the firm. Luke Barber received his Masters in Accounting from Syracuse University. He received his BSBA from Colorado State University. Carrie Davis received her Masters in Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia after receiving her BS in Commerce there.

Michael Jay, Ashley Atkins, and Caroline Crank joined the firm in mid-June. Michael Jay, CPA, has a B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech and a Master’s in Accounting from George Washington University. He has five years’ experience as an auditor with the General Services Administration, Office of Inspector General.
Ashley Atkins is a May 2007 graduate of James Madison University with a B.B.A., majoring in Accounting.
Caroline Crank is a May 2007 graduate of Longwood University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Concentration in Accounting.

Marilla Showalter and John Lauck, both of whom interned at the Firm in Summer 2006 following their May 2006 graduations from James Madison University, returned to James Madison for a fifth year of school. Both received Master of Accounting Degrees in May 2007 and began work full-time as Staff Accountants.

Bill Pierce has joined the Tax Department as a Supervisor, working in Trust and Estate Administration. He has a Trust Management Degree from Campbell University and has worked with several regional banks.
Donna Walker, who has been with Hantzmon Wiebel since 2000, moved into the position of Staff Associate for Trust and Estate Administration, following course work at Piedmont Virginia Community College.
Susan Kane joined the Administrative staff of the Tax Department. For several years she has worked during tax season for the firm.

Matt Varvaris, a James Madison graduate with a M.S. in Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at The University of Virginia, is a Staff Accountant in the A&A Department.

Emiley Clayton, an MBA student (concentration in Accounting) at Mary Washington University, is an intern in the A&A Department. She has a B.S. from the University of Arizona.

Pam Fitzgerald, CPA, has joined the Tax Department as a supervising senior. A graduate of James Madison University, she has worked both in private industry positions and in local CPA firms. Belinda Jarrell is a new Senior Accountant in the A&A Department. She has a BBA, with a concentration in Accounting, from James Madison University.

Family Picnic The firm’s annual Family Picnic in mid-July was fun for all ages and appetites. The day began with a firm golf tournament and ended with entertainment from the firm’s own nine-piece band, “Out of Balance.”
